About the role

Efficiently and courteously obtains information to register patients in the clinical management system to ensure accurate and complete demographic and payor information. Performs associated clerical duties including obtaining signatures for patient consent, verifying insurance information, and generating point-of-service bills. Explores every avenue available to collect payment at the time of service and implements a mutually satisfactory payment method until the account is paid in full. Communicates with Patient Access, Resource Management, and the Medicaid eligibility vendor.

Responsibilities

  • Serve patients and their families compassionately while gathering necessary demographic information to complete the registration process.
  • Communicate directly with patients and/or families regarding financial liability.
  • Assist patients and families by directing, escorting, or providing maps to other areas of the hospital to ensure an excellent patient experience.
  • Manage gaps in expectations and acknowledge inconveniences.
  • Provide physicians with copies of admission and outpatient reports for patient follow-ups.
  • Ensure speedy and proficient registration to expedite patient care and maintain schedules for Clinical and Diagnostic Services.
  • Assist with visitor control in the registration area.
  • Provide accurate registration information to the Patient Accounting Department to expedite the billing process.
  • Supply accurate registration information to Health Information Services for coding services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate Degree in Business, Medical Office Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Two or three years of customer service, collections, registration, or medical office experience required.
  • Candidates with an Associate degree qualify with one to two years of experience.

Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to utilize computers, electronic calculators, and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Able to deal with the public (face-to-face and over the phone).
  • Excellent interdepartmental communication skills.

Work Environment

  • Extensive patient and family contact.
  • Exposed to moderate temperatures and controlled lighting.
  • Subject to many interruptions due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, lifting, carrying, and standing.
  • Required to view computer terminal for extended periods of time.

Location: Lenoir, NC. Work Type: Per Diem. Work Schedule: Day shift.
