About the role

As the Patient Access Director, you will lead onsite operations at Baystate Health in Springfield, MA, overseeing end-to-end Patient Access functions—including scheduling, registration, insurance verification, authorizations, financial counseling, and point-of-service collections. This role serves as a critical connection between Baystate leadership and Huron’s Managed Services organization, driving workflow optimization, standardization, staffing strategies, quality outcomes, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, visible leader with deep expertise in Patient Access operations and a commitment to elevating the patient and provider experience.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and direct subordinate supervisors/managers on the patient access team.
  • Develop and implement policy and procedure recommendations to meet the needs of the Health and Hospital System and its patients.
  • Oversee preparation of the budget for areas of responsibility and participate in the preparation of the annual Health and Hospital System budget.
  • Prepare annual statements of goals and objectives in collaboration with subordinates.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, local government, and private industry mandates, and ensure staff awareness and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Analyze and identify patient access service needs to determine appropriate action and recommend procedural changes for problem resolution.
  • Identify issues, risks, barriers, and opportunities for improvement related to the patient access area.
  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize pertinent revenue cycle data components, and monitor performance against Key Performance Indicators.
  • Develop professional and technical skills in subordinate staff, and create ongoing training and education materials for staff and patient education.
  • Supervise, train, develop, and motivate subordinate staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective and efficient organization and planning skills to manage complex multi-workstream performance improvement projects or multiple concurrent client engagements, while delegating and overseeing the work of junior team members.
  • Apply proven analytical and critical thinking skills to synthesize complex data sets, interpret qualitative and quantitative data, and implement recommendations resulting in measurable performance improvement and organizational change.
  • Utilize impactful and professional written and verbal communication to set clear project team direction, develop key deliverables, escalate risks, and influence key stakeholders, including client and internal senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with team members and client counterparts to understand business challenges, adapt implementation methodologies, and ensure results align with the client’s business objectives.
  • Lead teams, including building talent, training, supervising, coaching/mentoring, and performance management.

Requirements

  • Current U.S. work authorization required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Direct supervisory experience required.
  • Patient Access experience required, with 2-3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • 6-8+ years of healthcare operations experience.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this job is $160,000 - $224,000. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay at the time of posting. Actual salary will vary based on factors including specific skills, certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel. This role is also eligible for Huron’s annual incentive compensation program, reflecting a pay-for-performance philosophy.
