About the role
Under the direction of the Patient Access leadership team, you will schedule, register, initiate pre-authorization and referrals, and confirm and maintain patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and/or medical procedures for McLaren Health.
Responsibilities
- Obtain required patient demographic and insurance information for McLaren Health, governmental requirements, billing, and third-party payer needs.
- Provide courteous and efficient services to customers and accurately document/verify patient pre-registration information in a professional and timely manner.
- Collect, document, and scan all required demographic and financial information.
- Provide physician and/or diagnostic appointment scheduling.
- Maintain knowledge of insurance and authorization requirements.
- Perform real-time insurance verification and interpret responses.
- Inform patients of insurance requirements for services provided, such as authorizations/pre-certifications and referrals.
- Estimate and collect copays, deductibles, and other patient financial obligations.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls with the goal of growing business, customer satisfaction, and customer retention, providing ease of access to McLaren Health services.
- Maintain professionalism and diplomacy, following specific standards as defined in the department professionalism policy.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-year experience in a customer service role or health care industry.
- Preferred:
- 2-years previous experience with third-party medical insurance, HMO, and managed care, including experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding and medical terminology.
