About the role

The Patient Access Representative performs all aspects of registration throughout the hospital. This position helps determine patient financial responsibility and collects co-pay, deductible, and coinsurance when applicable, working closely with the financial counselor and patient accounts department. This position serves as the switchboard for telecommunications within and outside of the hospital, performing some receptionist duties in directing patients, visitors, and others to appropriate areas. Position is often responsible for multitasking many important tasks at one time. The Patient Access Representatives are the face of the organization.

  • Serves as the switchboard for telecommunications within and outside of the hospital.
  • Directs patients, visitors, and others to appropriate areas.
  • Multitasks many important tasks at one time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to speak, hear, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to display strong customer service skills and ability to maintain a high level of alertness.
  • Full-time employees are highly encouraged to pass the Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) exam or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) or other equivalent exam within 18 months of hire (optional for part-time and PRN employees).
  • Minimum of 2 years computerized data entry experience required.
  • Reception or clerical experience at a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel, e-mail, and internet/web searches is preferred.
  • 35 wpm typing speed is preferred.
  • Able to effectively interact with co-workers and public.
  • Able to multitask under stressful situations.
