About the role

This role requires working night shifts, including Wednesdays 3p-7p, Thursdays and Fridays 7pm-7:30am, and rotating Saturdays and Sundays 7pm-7:30am. A 4-week training period from 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday, is mandatory before moving into this shift.

The role involves supporting departmental efficiencies, including scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception, and discharge functions. The representative must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information and employ proper patient liability collection techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and provide world-class customer service
  • Complete full patient registration at the date of service
  • Adhere to financial and cash control policies and procedures
  • Explain and secure hospital and patient legal forms
  • Scan Protected Health Information and create patient information packets/folders
  • Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care
  • Educate patients about patient financial liabilities and employ compliant patient liability collection techniques
  • Perform hospital cash reconciliation and secure payment entry
  • Verify insurance, benefits, coverage, and eligibility

Requirements

  • Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer
  • Customer service skills and experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements and Compliance standards (preferred)
  • Ability to perform essential job duties in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required, with 0-1 year of experience in a customer service role and 0-1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area (preferred). Some college coursework is also preferred.

Physical Demands

The role requires sitting at a computer terminal for extended periods, resolving physician and patient issues, and occasionally lifting/carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs. Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking are also required.

Work Environment

The work environment includes hospital administration, patient care locations, and potential exposure to life-threatening patient conditions. The representative must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands.
