Patient Access Representative I - ED
About the Role

Located in Dover, Ohio, Union Hospital is an award-winning not-for-profit community hospital serving the communities of eastern Ohio. As a Patient Access Representative, you will provide a comprehensive set of business and financial related services during the patient access process on the day the patient arrives at Union Hospital to receive healthcare services. You will work face-to-face with diverse populations of patients via mobile work station, collecting their financial, insurance, medical, and demographic information to check them in, complete their registration, and leave a positive, lasting impression.
Responsibilities
- Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical, and financial details.
- Cross-train to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED, and cash register.
- Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training new caregivers.
- Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer-facing role OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree.
- Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of a course within one year.
- Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
- In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
- In some locations, ability to move up to 25 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Schedule
A caregiver in this role works nights from 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM, including rotating weekends and holidays.
Pay
The pay range for new hires is $15.75 to $21.65 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime, nor does it reflect the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions).
