Patient Access Representative – Emergency Department

Responsibilities

• Deliver an exceptional experience to patients, families and visitors, from the moment they enter to the time they return home.
• Assist patients with registration, insurance eligibility, and collecting co-payments.
• Self-screen patients and schedule services.
• Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED, and cash register.
• Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.

Requirements

• A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Including rotating weekends and holidays.
• You will need to attend a 3-week EPIC training starting on your first day.
• The training is on-site at Mercy Hospital.
• Once the training is complete, you will then start work on your assigned schedule/shift.

Qualifications

• A caregiver who excels in this role will:
• Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial.
• Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.
• Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
• A high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer facing role OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year.
• Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems.
• Ability to work confidently and efficiently in an emergency department setting.

Skills

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $15.75 Maximum hourly: $21.65

Schedule

Works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Including rotating weekends and holidays.
