About the role

The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression on our patients by delivering compassionate, patient-centered service. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, collecting applicable payments, and ensuring a seamless registration experience. The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate registration and admissions by obtaining pertinent demographic information, collecting accurate insurance information, authorizations, and clearing outpatient hospital accounts.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.
  • Work closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments to foster a team environment.
  • Participate in training through the development of training tools, presentations at department in-services or staff meetings, or through the training of registration staff outside the patient access department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred medical insurance verification and authorization experience.
  • Preferred patient access experience.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of registration, non-federal and federal billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in healthcare or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with medical insurance verification and authorization preferred.
  • Experience with patient access preferred.
  • Knowledge of registration processes, billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care.
  • Strong medical terminology and computer skills.
