Job Overview
In this role, the Patient Access Representative will provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the NBI Geriatric Department. Functions include, but not limited to the day-to-day operations such as answering phones, ensuring all required demographic, financial, referral/authorizations, clinical and other registration data is accurately scheduled, collected, verified and communicated appropriately.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Customer service experience
- Knowledge in all aspects of registration, Non-Federal and Federal billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care Medical terminology and computer skills
- Associate degree (preferred)
- Minimum of 1 year of patient access, registration, or healthcare front-desk experience (preferred)
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (Epic preferred)
- Bilingual (preferred)
Scheduling Requirements
Day shift, 8:00am-4:00pm
Monday through Friday
Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Essential Functions
- Answering phones courteously and in a timely manner
- Show good judgment in the answering and referral of phone calls
- Schedules patient appointments and completes a full registration and patient eligibility review
- Knowledge of health insurance coverage including verification of benefits, pre-certification/pre-authorization for imaging
- Obtain referrals and authorizations for appointments
- Makes appointment confirmation calls
- Maintains chart accuracy in EMR system by ensuring appropriate records are collected and scanned appropriately
- Management/monitoring of registration work-queues
- Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail at all times
- Ability to interact with patients and caregivers in a professional, personable and empathetic manner
- Communicates problems to the proper personnel promptly; asks questions to clarify misunderstandings; requests assistance from appropriate personnel in the event of an unusual or difficult situation
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; offering assistance whenever colleagues are in need
- Communicates with Physician/s per their schedules
- Demonstrates excellent customer service in communication with physicians/physician staff, all departments within the medical center, miscellaneous callers and visitors
- Obtains adequate/accurate information and delegate information appropriately
- Maintains communication with physicians, mid-level providers, patients’ hospitals, insurance companies
- Demonstrates good judgment by following written and verbal instructions carefully
- Demonstrates the ability to adapt to change in the workload as required; uses time productively
- Performs all other duties as assigned
