Patient Access Representative

About the role

The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient insurance and benefits
  • Pre-certify services
  • Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
  • Work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and insurance companies
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers and Medicare guidelines

Requirements

  • 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma required; some college helpful
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under stress and perform tasks with high accuracy
  • Knowledgeable with various computer systems and able to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard

Qualifications

  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
