About the role
The Patient Access Representative (PAR) is responsible for greeting and registration of patients at Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC).
Responsibilities
- Greets and registers patients, gathering necessary demographic and billing information.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and obtains prior authorizations when required.
- Processes paperwork, ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
- Collections copayments and deductibles, offering discounts for SP/GCHP according to hospital policy.
- Answers phones and transfers calls, operating the central alarm system.
- Maintains strict confidentiality as required by HIPAA standards.
- Provides front-line customer services, directing patients through hospital areas.
- Communicates with other departments regarding pending authorizations, rescheduling, and denials.
- Processes orders, such as transfers and discharges, from the floor as directed.
- Communicates with callers, furnishing information or making necessary inquiries.
- Operates the switchboard and intercom to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls and messages.
- Participates in staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Participates in department on-call program as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, with 1-2 years of college preferred.
- Customer service experience, with insurance billing preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic computer skills.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
