Patient Access Representative

Responsibilities

  • Professionally answer phone calls from patients regarding scheduling appointments, tests, or general questions about health system services.
  • Use online knowledge management tools (EPIC) to assist with patient calls and issue resolution.
  • Welcome, greet, and assist patients courteously and professionally.
  • Schedule patient appointments accurately and efficiently using the computer system.
  • Register patients by entering demographic and insurance information into the electronic medical system.
  • Verify and ensure completeness of patient registration documentation.
  • Verify and enter patient data into the electronic medical system.
  • Review and verify patient insurance information using online resources.
  • Collect deposits or co-payments/deductibles prior to the patient being seen by the provider according to company policies.
  • Closely monitor and balance the drawer for end-of-day deposit.
  • Accurately document and communicate patient concerns to the site leadership team.
  • Work assigned hours, including weekends as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, clinical, and company information and data.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of healthcare office concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in insurance verification procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including telephone and email etiquette and documentation.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Flexibility and ingenuity in response to change.
  • Effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Working independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking clinical environment.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, or Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification in lieu of HS Diploma.
  • Experience: One year of demonstrated experience in an administrative position required. One year of experience in registration or front office duties in a physician’s office, hospital emergency department, and/or urgent care setting preferred.
