Job Title: Patient Access Representative Job Description The Patient Access Representative plays a key role in creating a welcoming and efficient experience for patients and visitors in a medical and laboratory services setting. This position focuses on scheduling appointments, supporting registration and check-in, verifying insurance, processing payments, and performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to ensure smooth daily operations. Responsibilities Schedule patient appointments accurately and efficiently.Greet patients and visitors upon arrival and ensure a welcoming, professional environment.Assist patients with registration and check-in procedures, ensuring all required information is collected.Enter patient demographic and billing information accurately into the system.Verify insurance coverage and collect and post payments to patient accounts.Collect and prepare specimens for testing and analysis when needed, following established procedures.Call physician offices to confirm the accuracy of test orders and clarify any discrepancies.Monitor and log patient wait times on a regular basis to support timely service.Notify the supervisor promptly of any patient issues or concerns.Promote and provide information about available patient services.Manage office supplies and maintain proper inventory levels.Open and close the office as needed, following established protocols.Perform general administrative and clerical duties to support daily operations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience working in a medical office environment.High school diploma or equivalent.Face-to-face customer service or reception experience.Knowledge of medical terminology.Experience in patient access or patient registration functions.Accurate and efficient data entry skills.Ability to work effectively in a healthcare setting and interact professionally with patients and clinical staff. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in healthcare or medical office operations.Experience working with insurance verification and patient billing processes.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for direct patient interaction.Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment.Attention to detail when handling patient information, test orders, and payments. Work Environment This is an onsite position in a medical laboratory setting at health system lab locations. The role involves frequent face-to-face interaction with patients, visitors, and clinical staff in a professional healthcare environment. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no flexibility on start time. The work requires extended periods at a front desk or registration area using computers and other office equipment, as well as occasional handling of specimens following established procedures. Dress is expected to be professional and appropriate for a clinical and patient-facing environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
