About the role
The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and register patients
- Verify patient insurance and benefits
- Pre-certify services and manage financial clearance
- Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
- Work with insurance carriers and comply with Medicare guidelines and federal/state regulations
Requirements
- 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- High School diploma required; some college helpful
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Effective communication and telephone etiquette
- Positive working relationships with patients, physicians, and hospital staff
- Knowledgeable with various computer systems and able to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
- Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
- Ability to push/pull/lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to perform tasks requiring gripping, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting
Qualifications
- High School diploma required
- Some college education helpful
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- Experience with clerical and customer service roles preferred
