Qualifications

Required:

• Medical or clerical experience
• 50 wpm keyboard skills
• Excellent spelling, math, and problem-solving skills
• Filing skills
• Telephone skills
• Data entry experience
• Ability to work independently and with co-workers
• Effective communication with patients and professionals
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and attend to detail

Preferred:

• Medical terminology
• Limited ICD-9 coding knowledge

Physical & Mental Demands

• Medium physical demand level capabilities required
• Must accommodate a fast, efficient pace
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods
• Lift up to 40 pounds and push a wheelchair up to 250 pounds
• Assist patients in and out of chairs, wheelchairs, or automobiles
• Ability to ride in an elevator
• 20/25 vision with correction
• Good hearing and legible handwriting

Responsibilities

• Performs department patient and visitor reception, directing patients to appropriate locations
• Obtains and verifies insurance and billing information
• Accurately processes information for all insurance types, including unfamiliar ones
• Audits charts daily for completeness and accuracy, completing follow-ups within designated timeframes
• Forwards follow-ups needing completion before the next shift to the appropriate person
• Prepares identification bracelets and patient care paperwork in a timely manner
• Maintains over 95% accuracy in tasks
• Looks up non-scheduled patient exams in the database
• Contacts appropriate personnel for office equipment repairs
• Maintains close working relationships with ancillary clinical departments and physician’s offices
• Attends meetings and supports division directions, communicating improvements to supervisors
• Trains and orients new department clerical staff
• Communicates effectively in person and on the telephone, interacting with various personality types
• Handles stress and pressure, making decisions as needed
• Understands, supports, and complies with Sky Lakes Medical Center’s philosophy, policies, and procedures
• Maintains competency in all position responsibilities
• Demonstrates competence in relation to the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan
