Patient Access (Registration) Specialist - Emergency Department - Part Time

Job Summary

This is 100% onsite work located at our Main Campus - Emergency Department in Burlington, VT. This position is scheduled to work Monday and Tuesday along with every other Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday: 5:00PM-9:00PM.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates emergent, urgent, transfer and admission access to the organization via ambulatory and EMS arrival
• Ensures patients are educated, supported and financially managed while in the emergency department
• Accurate identification, registration, insurance management, follow-up scheduling and ADT transfer functions
• Performs initial acute screening for ambulatory arrivals, working in tandem with technicians to expedite access to clinical care
• Facilitates all financial management functions, interviewing patients at the bedside in collaboration with physicians, nursing and support staff
• Navigates complex regulatory requirements while coordinating activities across multiple disparate information systems to support emergency department clinical operations
• Delivers a caring message in a chaotic environment

Requirements

• Education: Associates degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification highly preferred
• Experience: Minimum of one year’s experience in customer service, registration, insurance management or administrative support in a clinical environment
• EMT experience, medical assistant or technician in a busy clinical environment is strongly preferred
• Ability to work in a busy, emotionally charged acute care environment
• Demonstrated ability to diffuse angry/emotional customers and handle pressure with excellent verbal communication skills

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
