About the Role
A customer service liaison serving as the first impression of the medical center. This role involves greeting patients, collecting accurate demographic and regulatory information, ensuring proper insurance eligibility and copay collection, and facilitating accurate patient registration across hospital departments.
Responsibilities
- Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.
- Obtains accurate patient information and enters it into the Meditech computer system:
- Chooses correct medical record number
- Verifies and updates all demographic information (date of birth, address, maiden name, social security number)
- Verifies and updates all insurance information
- Ensures accurate reason for visit, physicians (primary care, attending, referring), locations, status, services, and occurrence codes
- Obtains all regulatory data:
- Health Care Proxy/advance directives
- HIPAA Notices
- Medicare secondary payer questions
- Medicare rights/Secure Horizon/Blue Cross 65/Secure Horizons
- Race and ethnic background
- Obtains accurate insurance information according to policies:
- Insurance name, address, telephone number, and identification number
- Checks eligibility for several insurances
- Verifies insurance in the computer system
- Obtains signatures according to policies:
- General consent of treatment
- HIPAA receipt of privacy notice
- Financial releases
- Checks quality of own registrations daily and runs revenue log to correct and pass to assigned lead.
- Assigns beds for patients according to service and diagnosis, maintains current census, and updates admission log.
- Performs transfers and activations in a timely manner.
- Handles day-to-day bed placement, including scheduled, urgent, and emergency admission functions (admitting, transferring, discharging, and death procedures).
- Shows respect for confidentiality at all times.
- Answers phones with name and department within 3 rings.
- Knows all downtime procedures.
- Is knowledgeable on the death process:
- Obtains report of death
- Fills out organ bank sheet and reports death to organ bank (except for ED)
- Fills out death certificate and death log
- Cross-trains in several different areas of Patient Access registration.
- Assumes Patient Access front desk responsibilities as needed.
- Follows all departmental policies and procedures.
- Non-essential functions:
- Ensures the work area is stocked for the next shift
- Cleans printers and faxes at the end of the shift
- Ensures food is removed from the refrigerator weekly
- Notifies supervisor if supplies are low
- Cleans the work area daily
- Disposes of confidential papers in the recycle bin
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School Graduate (some college preferred)
- Minimum Experience: 2-4 years in a healthcare setting with medical terminology and registration/check-in experience (insurance knowledge preferred)

Pay
Compensation range: $21.33 - $31.69 per hour. This range offers an estimate based on minimum job qualifications. Base pay is determined by a comprehensive evaluation of factors including education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
