Patient Access Coordinator
About the role
This role serves as the initial point of contact for patients entering the Health System for care. It involves supporting multiple technical tasks such as patient identification, registration, and scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest level of professionalism with each interaction.
- Support patients with diverse cultural needs.
- Ensure patients are appropriately identified, registered, and scheduled for their care needs.
- Collect 30% of eligible copayments.
- Monitor and manage workflow in the health system's EHR.
- Display understanding and sensitivity to each patient’s unique cultural needs.
- Independently perform scheduling and registration processes while maintaining regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate bed placement activities and prioritize appropriate locations of care.
- Collaborate with Patient Flow Facilitators and Nursing Leadership to ensure patients are placed on appropriate nursing units.
- Act as a key contact for physicians and nursing staff regarding patient information and placement.
- Manage death process, completing accurate Death Certificate Worksheets and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Support patient flow during system downtimes by using manual processes.
- Schedule and register patients for various types of appointments.
- Accurately complete required registration items including demographic requirements, patient identification practices, and insurance eligibility systems.
- Manage waitlists and cancellations for designated areas.
- Work independently to complete daily assignments with a 98% accuracy rate.
- Manage own API (timecard) system and adhere to safety policies.
- Foster a “Culture of Safety” through personal commitment to a safe environment.
- Adhere to patient identification policies and procedures.
- Understand and demonstrate completion of NIMS 100 training.
Requirements
Minimum one (1) year admitting experience to become proficient. Computer experience required. Strong telephone and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated skills in customer service. Knowledge of medical insurance. Ability to demonstrate problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Qualifications
Preferred High school diploma preferred, two (2) years of college preferred.
Skills
Able to function using department computer programs, including Internal/External websites. Able to function and have a complete understanding of computer downtime process. Able to review, analyze, and act upon insurance eligibility system responses. Manage own API (timecard) system. Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices.
