The Role

The Representative will work within the policies and processes as they are being performed across the entire organization. They are responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital. This includes:

  • Assigning accurate MRNs
  • Completing medical necessity / compliance checks
  • Providing proper patient instructions
  • Collecting insurance information
  • Receiving, processing, and verifying physician orders
  • Utilizing an overlay tool while providing excellent customer service

They will also operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls as applicable, adhere to policies, and provide excellent customer service in these interactions with the appropriate level of compassion. Patient Access staff are held accountable for point of service goals as assigned. They are responsible for the utilization of quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected, conducting audits of accounts, and providing statistical data to Patient Access leadership. They are also responsible for the pre-registration of patient accounts prior to patient visits, which may include inbound and outbound calling to obtain demographic, insurance, and other patient information, including the patient financial liabilities, including collecting point of service collections as well as past due balances, including payment plan options. They explain general consent for treatment forms to the patient/guarantor/legal guardian, obtain necessary signatures and witness’s name, and distribute patient education documents, such as Important Message from Medicare, Important Message from Tricare, Observation Forms, MOON form, Consent forms, and all forms implemented for future services. They review eligibility responses in insurance verification system and appropriately select the applicable insurance plan code, enter benefit data into system to support POS (Point of Service Collections) and billing processes to assist with a clean claim rate. They also screen medical necessity using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software to inform Medicare patients of possible non-payment of tests by Medicare and distribute the ABN as appropriate. They are responsible for distributing and documenting other designated forms and pamphlets.

Experience

  • 1+ years of customer service experience

Education

  • High School Diploma/GED required

Qualifications

  • CRCR certification required within 6 months of hire (Company Paid)

Pay and Schedule

The pay for this position is $18.00 - $19.15 /hr. Final compensation will be based on experience. This PRN position is an on-site role, and candidates must be able to work on-site at Covenant - St Joseph Healthcare - Maine, Bangor, ME.
