The Patient Access Representative is responsible for accurate and timely registration of hospital patients, keeping abreast of changes in insurance plan requirements that pertain to referral management and point-of-service collection. You will communicate any changes to Registration staff on the day, evening, and weekend shifts and train new employees as needed. The overall goal of this position is to ensure high-quality service for patients and accuracy of information during pre- and post-visits.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of daily registrations.
- Maintain a high level of quality service provided to patients, adhering to CHA service standards and AIDET expectations.
- Handle reports with timeliness and accuracy.
- Support new employee training.
- Act as a resource to other Patient Access Staff regarding admitting and registration functions.
- Collect co-pays within the department.
- Secure and explain to the patient all necessary signatures, legal and financial, including consent for treatment, consent to bill, and other signatures required per contractual agreements with third-party payers and governmental agencies.
- Attend department team meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned and special departmental projects as needed.

Requirements
- High School Diploma required; Associate Degree preferred.
- Two years of patient access experience within a healthcare setting handling all facets of registration, pre-registration, insurance verification, copayment determination, and other related services.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and collaborate successfully with patients, nursing, and professional staff.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate and resolve/de-escalate issues in a thoughtful, customer-oriented fashion.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, third-party plans, medical billing, and collections.
- Working knowledge of Google Office, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), and other Windows-based computer applications such as web-based applications and research.
- Knowledge of Epic systems including Grand Central, Prelude, and EMR.
Physical and Mental Skills
- Ability to be stationary for long periods.
- Ability to use a keyboard and read standard computer monitors and paperwork.
- Ability to receive and answer incoming telephone calls.
- Some light lifting duties.
- Ability to maneuver a registration cart while standing for long periods.
- Able to work in a demanding, busy, and stressful environment with deadlines.
- Able to communicate information effectively to individuals, groups, and communities.
- Able to prioritize responsibilities and work independently or within a team/group setting.
- Able to maintain regular contact with supervisor about ongoing activities.

Working Conditions
- Incandescent as well as fluorescent lighting.
- Close-quartered/sometimes shared workspace.
Pay
Hourly rate: $19–$23 per hour. Please note that the final offer may vary within the listed pay range based on a candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM (8-hour shifts).
- 40 hours per week.
