About the role

The Patient Access Advocate works part-time nights at Intuitive Health, partnering with MUSC Health. This role requires a minimum of 1 shift per week.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients with a smile, answer the phone, enter information into the electronic health record, and perform general clerical duties.
  • Update patient demographics, verify insurance, collect payments, and document registration information.
  • Confirm account accuracy to ensure clean billing and perform visit closure activities, including collecting payment and following up as necessary.
  • Provide high-level customer service during registration interactions and assist with wayfinding for patients and visitors.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as copying, scanning, and faxing documents.
  • Create and maintain patient files.
  • Answer and screen phone calls, take and direct messages, and provide information to callers.
  • Ensure the front desk, waiting room area, and children’s play area are clean and presentable.
  • Manage the work environment to maintain a friendly and respectful atmosphere.
  • Follow HIPAA policies and procedures and adhere to company policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
  • Flexibility.

  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 6 months of work experience in a healthcare setting or one year in customer service.
  • Basic understanding of insurance.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).
  • Exceptional communication skills and customer service.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work independently, self-directedly, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict and request assistance from a supervisor when needed.
  • Daily focus on meeting productivity standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and huddles as required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office setting desired.
  • Familiarity with health insurance and insurance verification.
  • Knowledge and skills regarding general office equipment (telephones, photocopiers, scanners, credit card machine, fax).
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook).
