Pathology Collector

About the role
The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services, and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Service includes five units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. APS operates a core laboratory at The Alfred and a small local laboratory at Sandringham Hospital.
We are looking for an experienced Pathology Collector to join our team. You will work across multiple areas, including Inpatients and Outpatients within Alfred Pathology Service, contributing your skills in an efficient, professional, and timely manner. Your high attention to detail will be essential for completing daily tasks and documentation.
This is a fixed-term, part-time position (60 hours per fortnight) until October 2026, classified as Grade 2 Pathology Collector, located at The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital, and Sandringham Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture and pathology collection for inpatients and outpatients.
- Complete daily tasks and documentation with a high level of accuracy.
- Work allocated shifts and rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays as required.
- Use electronic devices for blood test orders and collection certification.
Requirements
- Certificate 3 or 4 in Pathology Collection.
- Minimum 2 years of venepuncture experience using BD Eclipse needles.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively within a team.
- Essential computer skills for online order placement and electronic certification.
- Ability to participate in rotating shifts covering weekends and public holidays.
Qualifications
Desirable:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to commute to all three campuses: Alfred, Caulfield, and Sandringham Hospitals.
Schedule
- 07:00–13:30
- 07:00–15:30
- Outpatients shift: 08:00–17:00
- Alternating weekend shift: 07:00–12:00
