About the Role

The CHA laboratory provides everything from routine blood and urine tests to special tissue evaluation. Under the direct supervision of the Lab Director and Associate Pathologist, you will assist in the preparation of human surgical specimens and perform other assigned duties to ensure optimal patient care and the safety and efficiency of the Pathology Department.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently provide gross descriptions of all surgical specimens.
  • Demonstrate competence and adeptness in the use of Dragon Voice recognition software.
  • Independently troubleshoot issues with Dragon Voice and create new dictation templates.
  • Accurately and efficiently dissect tissue and place it into properly labeled cassettes for processing.
  • Print cassettes as needed and complete worksheets for each specimen.
  • Ensure specimen comments, including IHC, special stains, and levels, are transcribed correctly onto the specimen worksheets.
  • Accurately and efficiently perform frozen sections with staining and deliver frozen section slides within acceptable time limits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree; degree in biomedical or health sciences preferred.
  • Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologist’s Assistant program required; Master’s degree in Health Science preferred.
  • Current Pathologist’s Assistant certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required and must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
  • New certified graduates are acceptable, but 3 or more years of experience in a clinical pathology setting is preferred.
  • Must have dictation experience; experience with voice recognition software is preferred.
  • Experience with pathology computer systems.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions, chemical safety guidelines, and basic laboratory safety.
  • Knowledge of gross pathology.
  • Must be fluent in the English language.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Pay

Schedule

  • Work Schedule: Day shift, per diem.
  • Shift Details: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (8-hour shifts).
