About the role

Pathologists’ assistants support both surgical pathology and autopsy services, preparing and documenting tissue specimens so pathologists can diagnose disease accurately. Their work helps create the organized, well-documented specimens a pathologist needs for accurate interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Verify labeling and requisitions, confirm specimen integrity, and follow chain of custody procedures.
• Orient and describe specimens, take measurements, note key landmarks, and decide how to sample for microscopic examination.
• Dissect and ink margins, open and examine organs, identify lymph nodes, select representative sections, and photograph specimens when needed.
• Support frozen section workflow, ensuring proper specimen orientation and sampling.
• Organize and maintain the gross room, assist with inventory and supply management, and support documentation systems.
• Collaborate with histology staff to produce efficient and accurate tissue blocks and slides.

Requirements
