Patent Classifier (Computer Science or Electrical Engineering)
About the Role
Determine appropriate application classifications in accordance with the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) system and United States Patent Classification System (USPC) through technical knowledge, research, and automated tools. Join the Patent Search and Innovation Intelligence Services Team.
Responsibilities
- Mastering the patent classification process
- Assigning classifications in accordance with the Cooperative Patent Classification rules and definitions
- Classifying applications related to specific technologies
- Continually expanding knowledge and expertise into new technologies
- Working closely with others in a team environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- Experience and/or significant course work in any of the following areas: Network Security, Cryptography, Database Structure and Management, Machine Learning, Data Modeling, Data Storage/Interfaces, Electrical Communications, Image Recognition/Processing, Medical/Business/Fintech Informatics, Video Encoding/Decoding, Virtual Reality, Virtual Machines, Cloud Computing
- At least 6 months of work experience with research via work, internships or volunteering
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Applicants must have resided in the U.S. for the past two consecutive years
Qualifications
- Previous experience with intellectual property (highly desirable)
- Experience with circuits, electronics, electrical system
- Ability to work independently, without excessive supervision
- The ability to use computer systems to perform research and classification operations
- Ability to work independently to meet defined production and quality standards

Pay
$50,000 - $65,000 USD per year. This role is eligible for bonus earnings. Individual pay is based upon experience, education, skill and ability, expertise, and relevant factors.
