Eckert Seamans is a full-service national law firm with a strong reputation and history of success that spans more than 65 years. With approximately 300 lawyers across a network of 14 offices, we provide clients with proactive, solution-oriented business and litigation counsel. We are seeking an experienced Patent Agent or Patent Associate for our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Coordinate patent prosecution in foreign jurisdictions
• Conduct inventor interviews
• Draft patent applications
• Respond to Office Actions
• Advise clients on patent strategy and intellectual property protection
• Independently manage a variety of patent matters
• Collaborate effectively with inventors, in-house counsel, and client teams

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications; five (5)+ years preferred
• USPTO registration required
• Degree in electrical engineering strongly preferred
• Candidates with degrees in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related fields will also be considered
• Candidates with a Mechanical Engineering background should have substantial experience involving electrical technologies
• Exceptional writing, analytical, and technical communication skills
• Demonstrated experience preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO
• Experience conducting inventor interviews, responding to Office Actions, and managing patent portfolios preferred
• Prior law firm experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability and desire to independently manage a variety of active patent matters while collaborating effectively with clients and colleagues
