Patent Agent – Electrical/Mechanical

About the role

The role is for a patent agent with a business-oriented approach to patent portfolio development, supporting the diverse companies of Koch, including Molex. The position can be based in Wichita, KS; Atlanta, GA; or Lisle, IL.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to understand innovations and business objectives
• Develop, shape, and manage global patent portfolios, including overseeing outside counsel in the preparation of patent applications and efficiently managing a global patent docket
• Aid in competitive patent searches and risks assessments
• Support in-house counsel with patent enforcement, dispute resolution, and M&A due diligence
• Advance the IP team’s transformation through the execution of initiatives that optimize processes and advance the adoption of AI

Requirements

• Registration to practice before the USPTO
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, optics, or computer science
• At least three years of patent drafting and prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate environment, with an electro-mechanical focus
• Proficiency with IP management systems and searching tools, such as Anaqua and Acclaim IP

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an in-house patent practitioner
• Demonstrated experience developing and using AI tools for improving patent prosecution

Skills

• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Knowledge of patent law and procedures
• Experience with patent management software

Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
