Job Summary
The Party Chief is responsible for leading survey crews in the field, ensuring the accurate and timely collection of survey data for various construction and engineering projects. This role involves direct supervision of crew members, operation of survey equipment, and adherence to project specifications and safety protocols.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct survey crew members, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring productivity and adherence to safety standards.
- Operate and maintain a variety of survey equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and levels, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Perform complex survey calculations and adjustments in the field to verify data accuracy and completeness.
- Interpret and implement project plans, blueprints, and specifications to establish control points and layout design elements.
- Collect and record accurate survey data, including measurements, descriptions, and sketches, using appropriate field notes and data collectors.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders regarding project progress, issues, and data requirements.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as industry best practices, to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in the training and development of junior survey crew members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve field-related survey problems and equipment malfunctions.
- Prepare and submit daily reports detailing work performed, progress, and any encountered issues.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or Party Chief role.
- Proficiency in operating various survey equipment, including total stations, robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and data collectors.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, practices, and calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Experience with surveying software and data processing techniques.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record required.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification preferred.
- Physical ability to lift and carry survey equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work extended hours in the field.
