Parts Specialist I VDOT

Overview: The Parts Specialist I provides counter service to VDOT employees who need parts/equipment to perform their jobs. The role includes inventory control, data entry in inventory systems, customer service, and occasional driving of a MANCON vehicle to pick up parts. This is an hourly position.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $13.00 to $22.62 per hour. Placement within this range will be based on a combination of relevant experience, certifications, and/or demonstrated skills that align with the role requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality customer service, including:
  • Attention to detail
  • Review, familiarize with, and adhere to the Product Group Catalog
  • Review, familiarize with, and adhere to the Policy and Procedures Manual
  • Review, familiarize with, and adhere to MANCON’s SOPs and Safety Manual
  • Meet and greet customers
  • Review supplied requisition forms for proper completion (signatures, timestamps, part numbers, descriptions, quantities)
  • Answer questions regarding parts availability
  • Ask appropriate questions to ensure correct parts are researched and provided
  • Inform customers when requested parts are available
• Parts pick‑up:
  • Drive vehicle to designated locations to purchase/pick up parts
  • Provide company documentation to vendors as required (tax‑exempt form, credit references)
  • Review all invoices at vendor locations to ensure pricing and quantity accuracy
  • Return products to MANCON location in a timely fashion
• Data entry:
  • Assist in generating invoices for customer requisitions in the inventory system
  • Assist in entry of vendor receiving documents in the inventory system
• Inventory management:
  • Assist in performing weekly inventory cycle counts
  • Assist in performing counts during wall‑to‑wall inventories at site
• Other duties:
  • Follow established guidelines for vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Provide 24‑hour support during emergency and/or critical operations
  • Travel to locations to pick up parts
  • Assist with inventory research projects as requested
  • Adhere to required procedures
  • Participate in the SCM continuing training program
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with at least two years driving experience
• One year experience with auto parts or heavy‑duty truck parts
• 24‑hour availability during emergency and/or critical operations
• Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license
• Follow vehicle and equipment maintenance guidelines
• Provide 24‑hour support during emergencies
• Travel to locations to pick up parts
• Assist with inventory research projects as requested
• Adhere to required procedures and participate in SCM training

Qualifications

• Required:
  • Valid driver’s license with two years driving experience
  • One year experience with auto parts or heavy‑duty truck parts
  • 24‑hour availability during emergency and/or critical operations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license
• Preferred:
  • Delivery driver experience
  • Inventory or warehouse experience
  • One year computer experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain P1 or P2 ASE certification

Physical Requirements

Medium work – exerting up to 50 lb of force occasionally, up to 20 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly to move objects. Essential activities include driving, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, and walking. Work is primarily performed in storerooms and warehouses, which may have uncontrolled temperatures and dust/damp conditions, as well as in vehicles traveling to sites.
