About the Role

Front Counterpersons are responsible for generating sales, assisting customers at the counter, and performing various tasks to ensure smooth operations. They act as cashiers, handle core returns, and manage customer transactions accurately. Additionally, they support shared inside sales functions, including Will Call tasks, and are expected to upsell related products to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Generate a minimum monthly sales target as tracked on the MTD Performance report.
  • Assist customers at the counter, acknowledging new customers when a line forms.
  • Perform “Will Call” tasks when demand exceeds the designated Will Call person’s capability.
  • Process customer transactions, including handling cash drawers accurately.
  • Collect and return driver’s licenses for customers using dollies.
  • Upsell related products to customers beyond their primary part needs.
  • Ensure all paperwork (invoices, credit cards, etc.) is properly signed by customers.
  • Document pertinent information on invoices (e.g., delivery times, PO requirements, core pickups).
  • Bill freight immediately after placing parts on a ticket and collect payment upfront.
  • Collect 100% down payment for ordered parts at the time of order.
  • Charge a 10% restocking fee for all returned parts.
  • Make daily phone calls to assigned accounts, covering for absent staff as needed.
  • Return parts to their designated locations and move dirty cores to the core area with proper documentation.
  • Move warranty parts to the designated area and document paperwork immediately.

Requirements

  • Stand and walk for up to 4 continuous hours per day.
  • Remain in a stationary, seated position for up to 4 continuous hours per day.
  • Traverse the department and/or dealership for up to 6 continuous hours per day.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently reach, bend, push, and pull.
  • Ascend and descend stairs, moving items up to 25 lbs.
  • Ascend and descend a ladder, moving items up to 10 lbs.
  • Move items up to 50 lbs.
  • Communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Inspect and recognize parts and documentation.
  • Operate a computer.

Finer Points

Front Counterpersons should avoid becoming mere “order takers” and instead seize opportunities to sell additional products the dealership offers. They are expected to proactively suggest related products to meet customer needs.
