About the role
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Parts Person & Small Engine Mechanic to support our service and sales operations. This role combines customer-facing parts counter responsibilities with hands-on diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of small engines and related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers and technicians in identifying and sourcing correct parts
- Manage parts inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and cycle counts
- Maintain accurate records in the parts management system
- Process parts sales, returns, and warranties
- Keep parts department clean, organized, and properly labeled
- Communicate with suppliers and follow up on backorders
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain small engines and equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, generators, snow blowers, etc.)
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tune-ups, carburetor cleaning, and blade sharpening
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner
- Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation
- Follow all safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience with small engine repair preferred
- Knowledge of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines
- Familiarity with parts catalogs, diagrams, and inventory systems
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and work in a shop environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Valid driver’s license
