About the role

We are looking for a strong Events Associate to join the a16z crypto team and help deliver thoughtful, high-touch experiences from concept through execution. This role will own key aspects of the event planning process, partnering across teams to bring exceptional experiences to life while ensuring every detail is executed seamlessly. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The role can be based in San Francisco or New York City and requires in-office presence at least two days per week. Approximately 30% travel is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Events Manager to plan and execute large-scale external events as part of the a16z crypto Marketing team. Tentpole events may include: F1, Consensus, Token2049, Korea Blockchain Week, and more.
  • Manage the 12-week summer program for our Research team, including the development and execution of a 12-week curated hospitality program.
  • Oversee the full production of premium branded goods from conception through delivery for special projects and events, including custom VIP kits, welcome kits, event gifting suites, and more.
  • Lead private dining and salon-style hospitality moments.
  • Work cross-functionally with executives, GTM team, Regulatory/Policy, Research, Investment Team, and more to create seamless event and programming execution for a16z crypto’s various needs.
  • Partner with events colleagues across the firm to drive firm-wide visibility and alignment for all events.
  • Own systems management and reporting for production trackers, event plans, and event communications.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to produce event collateral, registration materials, signage, and other guest-facing assets.
  • Oversee the team's event inventory, ensuring event materials are organized, accessible, and ready to support seamless execution.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of experience producing events, including large-scale conferences, summits, and executive experiences. A blend of agency and in-house experience is preferred.
  • Proven experience managing event budgets, vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and production partners, including staffing, security, AV, lighting, and other technical event components.
  • Superior project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Highly organized and process-oriented, with the ability to build structure, improve workflows, and quickly learn new systems and tools (Google Workspace, Marketo, Affinity CRM, Splash, ClickUp, Salesforce, Slack, WordPress, Airtable, etc.).
  • High integrity and sound judgement, with a demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs, solve problems proactively, and make thoughtful decisions in fast-paced, high-visibility environments.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 30%) to support onsite event execution.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000 - $165,000. Actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors, including experience, skills, and scope. This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs.
