Part-time Warming Station Attendant

This is a part-time, seasonal position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year, ending when the Warming Station season concludes (November 1, 2026 - March 31, 2027). The role is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.

About the role

Warming Station Attendants are essential workers expected to report during weekdays, weekends, holidays, and weather emergencies. Attendants oversee operations at any of the five Gwinnett County Warming Stations during overnight shifts from 5:30 pm to 7:00 am, including a 1-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks. The role involves supporting residents with empathy and respect, enforcing station rules, and adhering to all Warming Station regulations.

• Shorty Howell Park Activity Building — 2750 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA 30096

Responsibilities

• Complete and verify resident intake forms for every guest served.
• Set up, clean, and organize the site, including cots, cot covers, blankets, and supply staging.
• Perform scheduled building walk-throughs and sanitation rotations of sleeping quarters, meal areas, and restrooms.
• Maintain accurate attendance logs and complete resident intake documentation.
• Record overnight guest counts by category and submit the Daily Shift Report by 6:00 am.
• Track supply levels each shift and notify the shift supervisor immediately when items are low or out.
• Record and submit timely, accurate reports to supervisors regarding time, attendance, inventory, incidents, and other critical information.
• Support residents with empathy and respect while consistently enforcing station rules and Warming Station regulations.
• Attend all required trainings and follow County policies and Warming Station protocols.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors and adapt quickly to schedule changes caused by weather-related emergencies.
• Provide transportation to residents using a county vehicle as directed by leadership, in accordance with County policies and defensive driving requirements.
• Facilitate clear and respectful verbal communication with guests to provide support and enforce station rules.
• Engage in effective interpersonal communication with team members and supervisors to ensure coordinated operations and timely information sharing.
• Deliver shift handover briefings to incoming staff and supervisors covering guest status, incidents, and supply needs.

Requirements

• This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree in social services or social work.
• One year of experience working with vulnerable populations and underserved communities.

Pay

Hourly rate: $18.00 per hour.
