Job Summary
About the role
The City of Pismo Beach is seeking Part-Time Tourism and Events Hosts to assist with visitor services and city-sponsored events. This role involves supporting City events from setup to breakdown, welcoming guests at the airstream location, and providing information about local attractions.
Responsibilities
- Greet, receive, and provide accurate and helpful information to all visitors while exceeding their expectations with high quality guest services.
- Achieve independence in a fast-paced, public-facing setting, working independently.
- Assist with supporting city events, including pre-event coordination, communication and outreach, setup, and breakdown.
- Actively assist on site throughout the duration of the event.
- Support on-site event services, event check-in, visitor information, customer sales and service, field questions and concerns, and vendor support.
- Stay updated with local activities, events, businesses, and trends to share up-to-date information about the City and its happenings and culture.
- Promote local events by working with CVB staff, opening the information center, stocking brochures, checking inventory, monitoring displays, maintaining cleanliness, and providing calendars and events.
- Assist the Tourism and Events Department team by assembling information packets for individual visitors, referring industry tour and group information requests, and assisting in other areas/projects as requested.

- Knowledge of Pismo Beach and the surrounding areas, businesses, events, natural spaces, and history.
- Excellent listening skills, verbal communication, and people skills.
- Ability to interact with visitors and residents providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively via in-person, in writing, and by telephone, in a prompt, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Ability to perform responsible clerical support.
- Ability to learn, interpret, and apply administrative, City, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to plan and coordinate events and related staffing.
- Ability to organize, maintain, and update office database and records systems.
- Ability to file materials alphabetically, chronologically, and numerically.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Some experience involving frequent public contact and customer service in a visitor-serving business.

Benefits
This position is not eligible for benefits, except as mandated by law. Part-time employees receive 40 hours of paid sick leave per calendar year.
Pay
The pay for this position is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is part-time, averaging up to 19 hours per week, with some weekend and evening availability required.
