This position is located in the Department of Physics, a medium-sized department within the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington.

About the role

  • Prepares, performs maintenance, and teardown of equipment used in introductory physics labs.
  • Supports faculty and students by ensuring lab sessions are safe, well-organized, and technically functional.
  • Sets up experiments, maintains equipment, manages supplies, and assists with lab development and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
  • Hands-on technical skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work on schedule in a lab setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in physics or engineering.
  • Electronic repair skills.
  • Video editing experience.
  • 3D printing experience.
  • Fabrication experience.
  • Experience with instructional technology.
  • Experience with lab systems like PASCO or Vernier.
  • Non-student status.

Schedule

  • Maximum of 20 hours per week.
  • Depending on experience and skills, additional hours up to 29 hours per week may be available.
  • Position is based in physics labs in Swain West, Bloomington, Indiana.
