Job Description And Position Requirements

Penn State Abington is searching for up to five (5) part-time STEM Academy Instructors for an in-person math and science based high school program at a community organization in Northeast Philadelphia. The instructors will be responsible for providing pre-designed content in a singular STEM field (Engineering, Math, Physics, IST, Computer Science) to a group of high school students in out-of-school programming. Project activities will occur between September 2025 and June 2025, with opportunities to extend project participation into later semesters. Program activities take place between 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on most weekdays. Instructors will generally work 6 hours per week. Hourly compensation for this opening is between $30-40/hour for qualified college students or recent graduates.

Job Duties

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants to deliver STEM based instruction, activities, and labs for high school students.
  • Follow and revise written instructions and supporting materials for all STEM activities.
  • Provide weekly updates, reports, and materials to STEM Faculty Coordinator.
  • Communicate regularly with fellow STEM team members and Faculty Coordinator to ensure proper content and problem solving.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Timely completion of job responsibilities and taking initiative to resolve problems.
  • Proficiency within at least one STEM area of interest (Engineering, Math, Physics, IST, Computer Science) or Education (5th semester students or higher preferred).
  • Ability to understand instructions and work independently as well as collaboratively on tasks.
  • Current or former Penn State Abington student (preferred).

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
