Anticipated hourly salary range: $15.16 – $18.46. This is a part-time position working up to 4–5 hours per day between 7 am and 3 pm.

The City of Greeley is offering an exciting opportunity to get your foot in the door with our Equipment Maintenance team as a Shop Assistant. You’ll work alongside experienced mechanics and support staff, keeping the shop running smoothly and efficiently. Whether it's helping move vehicles, picking up parts, keeping things clean and organized, or jumping in to assist with basic repairs, you’ll be part of a close-knit, mission-driven crew.

This is the perfect role for someone who wants real-world experience and a stable part-time gig, is curious about cars, trucks, and how things work, doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves and switching tasks on the fly, and is dependable, respectful, and takes pride in doing a job right.

Responsibilities

  • Assist mechanics and support staff in daily shop operations
  • Move vehicles within the shop and transport them as needed
  • Pick up and deliver parts
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop environment
  • Assist with basic repairs and vehicle maintenance
  • Communicate with vendors, customers, and team members
  • Perform shop clean-up and other varied tasks as needed
  • Maintain accurate records and inventory
  • Respond promptly to customer needs with a polite and professional demeanor

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Skills

  • Familiarity with basic automotive tools, parts, and shop equipment (preferred but not required)
  • Understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair terminology (a plus)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Detail-oriented, particularly in maintaining accurate records and inventory
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Strong communication skills with vendors, customers, and team members
  • Willingness to take initiative and help wherever needed
  • Ability to transition between varied tasks and troubleshoot basic issues under supervision

Work Environment

  • Work alone, with groups, or attend meetings
  • Conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings
  • May be required to work extended hours in the evening, holidays, or weekends
  • Frequent interruptions and managing competing priorities with inflexible deadlines
  • Frequent participation in meetings
  • Frequent contact with employees and the public, in person and on the telephone
  • Moderate to considerable physical effort, including working from ladders in awkward positions, frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 50 lbs.), and use of medium weight tools
  • Walking on uneven ground, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching while performing duties
  • Entering/exiting manholes or vaults; walking near or across rivers and ditches
  • Working in all weather conditions, including excessive heat and extreme cold
  • Working in or near moving traffic with appropriate traffic control set up

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
  • Close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection of small defects and parts, using measurement devices, graphs, and gauges
  • Visual acuity for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Visual acuity to operate machinery at or within arm’s reach and to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work or to make general observations of facilities or structures for inspection purposes
  • Frequent balancing, bending/stooping, carrying/lifting light to heavy objects, climbing, fingering, grasping, repetitive motion, hearing, sitting, standing, talking, and walking
  • Occasional pulling, pushing, reaching, feeling temperature, and kneeling
