About the role
This position provides security coverage for Wake Forest University. Duties include conducting foot patrols and security checks, monitoring areas for unauthorized users, responding to incidents, reporting hazards, assisting with special events and crowd control, completing necessary reports, and providing information and directions.
Responsibilities
- Conducts foot patrols and security checks of buildings owned or leased by Wake Forest University.
- Makes routine rounds of buildings and parking lots, monitoring campus for unauthorized users.
- Protects and safeguards students and employees from criminal and potentially dangerous situations.
- Protects property and vehicles from theft and vandalism.
- Aids Campus Police Officers in deterring criminal activity.
- Builds rapport with students and employees to foster a sense of safety and security.
- Completes found property reports for unattended items.
- Communicates with University Police Communications Center using two-way radio.
- Assists with crowd control during special events.
- Reports suspicious people or activities.
- Provides information and directions as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Assists Police Officers in prevention and detection of suspicious or criminal activity.
- Reports, documents, and prepares testimony for Student Judicial Hearings.
- Routinely surveys the campus to check for safety, health, or environmental concerns.
- Completes operation reports and/or work orders to report any findings of a potential problem, notifying the proper University Department and offering suggestions for dealing with the situation.
Requirements
- High school graduate with two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid NC Driver license and good driving record; must be insurable.
- Skill in building security and lock procedures.
- Skill in providing protection services.
- Skill in writing detailed and accurate reports.
- Skill in detecting criminal activity and assisting Police Officers with investigations.
- Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in using a computer for report writing and timekeeping.
- Skill in understanding and following safety procedures and making logical decisions.
- Skill in detecting problems and reporting information to appropriate personnel.
- Skill in operating equipment safely, such as vehicle wheelchair lift and two-way radios.
- Knowledge of Campus Student Judicial System.
- Ability to prepare cases and testify in court.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to successfully complete First Aid, CPR, and Blood borne Pathogen training.
- Basic knowledge of Hazardous Materials.
- Ability to work during holidays, weekends, day and night shifts, and periodic overtime.
