Big Island Bouldering is looking to fill a part-time routesetting position (20-30hr/week).
About the role
As a routesetter, you will be part of the team that creates the experience for every climber in the gym.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routesetting-related tasks such as hold stripping and washing, wall maintenance, and workspace organization
- Set boulders for all climbing abilities that meet Big Island’s quality standards (3-5 boulders per day)
- Forerun climbs and make adjustments to improve movement quality, safety, and accessibility
- Ensure holds, walls, volumes, and mats are clean and well-maintained
- Collaborate with gym staff to incorporate member feedback and maintain high setting standards
- Receive and incorporate constructive feedback with a growth-oriented mindset
- Follow all safety procedures when working and using tools and equipment
- Conduct yourself with professionalism, respect, and a collaborative attitude
- Be able to work a flexible schedule (nights and weekends) as needed due to business needs and events
Requirements
- 1+ year of commercial setting experience
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more and perform physical labor regularly
- Ability to work at height and on ladders
- Must have understanding and ability to demonstrate climbing movement up to v6
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Enthusiasm for learning, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a positive team culture
- Commitment to safety, communication, and continuous improvement
- Understanding of climbers' movement across different climber types and skill levels
- Ability to stand, reach, bend, climb, and move throughout the facility for extended periods
- Ability to focus and communicate effectively amid distractions and loud noises
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively
- Love for climbing and excitement about shaping others’ climbing experiences
- Rope setting experience is not required
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years commercial setting experience
- Competition setting experience
- Basic understanding of USAC rules and regulations
- Ability to effectively forerun v8+
- USAC L1 certification
Pay
$18-$20, DOE
Schedule
Part-time, 20-30 hours per week (flexible, including nights and weekends as needed)
