Part-Time Residential Monitor

About the role

The Residential Specialist monitors daily program operations in a substance use treatment facility, ensuring a safe, drug-free environment while providing Life Skills and 12 Step Education.

Responsibilities

• Supervise patient activities, conduct walk-throughs, and respond to crises with empathy and objectivity.
• Transport patients, monitor leaving/returning from passes, and organize transportation as needed.
• Document behavioral changes, incidents, and patient progress in logs and electronic records.
• Facilitate Life Skills training, 12 Step Education, and orientation for new patients.
• Conduct urine testing, manage medication administration (if certified), and ensure equipment safety.
• Oversee patient recreation, free time, and mealtimes, ensuring adherence to rules.
• Monitor visitors, enforce site rules, and handle packages during visitation.
• Respond to medical, psychiatric, or behavioral emergencies and communicate with staff accordingly.
• Maintain professional standards, attend trainings, and ensure compliance with policies and licensing requirements.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent; certification as a substance abuse counselor preferred or obtainable within 6 months.
• Minimum two years' experience in a substance abuse setting preferred.
• Knowledge of treatment methods, 12 Step processes, and confidentiality regulations.
• Valid driver’s license, CPR, First Aid, and Medication Management certifications are advantages; bilingual skills are a plus.
• Strong communication, documentation, and computer skills; ability to work with diverse populations.

Physical & Work Environment

The role involves sitting, walking, lifting up to 15 pounds, and working in a congregate care setting with exposure to infectious diseases. Reasonable accommodations are available for disabilities.
