Part-Time Recreation Aide/Skate Guard

About the role
The Skate Guard ensures the safety and enjoyment of all patrons at the public ice rink by monitoring the ice surface, enforcing rink rules, and assisting skaters as needed. In addition to maintaining a secure environment, the role includes working at the Front Desk, managing transactions for admissions and skate rentals, and providing support with setting up and cleaning meeting rooms. The Skate Guard contributes to a positive experience by combining vigilance on the ice with efficient customer service and facility upkeep.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise the ice surface during public skating sessions
- Operate the cash register and collect admission fees for public ice skaters
- Hand out and put away rental skates
- Answer phone and provide information to customers
- Help set up and clean meeting rooms
- Move hockey nets for the building supervisor during an ice cut and remove snow
- Maintain cleanliness of front desk, lobby, rink, benches, and skate room
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to read, follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to use a cash drawer and computer equipment
- Basic math skills
Skills
- Ability to ice skate
Physical Requirements
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances
- Ability to stoop, bend, climb, and crawl as needed to adequately perform cleaning and maintenance of facilities
Working Conditions
Work is conducted at an ice rink facility that is 35-50 degrees inside the rink. Moderate to busy work pace. Work hours are morning to early evening on the weekends, some weekday hours during the holidays.
