WOUND NP ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide wound care services for long-term care patients residing in skilled nursing facilities.
- Prescribe appropriate medications, including controlled substances in accordance with WV Law.
- Order, review, and/or follow-up with treatments and diagnostic testing.
- Communicate with the nursing home staff on a regular and as needed to discuss changes in condition and/or the care plan.
- Collaborate with the primary care physician.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- A current, unrestricted NP license in the state of West Virginia.
- Board Certification.
- DEA licensure (Optional).
- A clinical background in adult, family, or geriatric specialties.
- A clinical background of wound care; including but not limited to chronic, debilitating, stalled, or infected wounds.
- A comfort level with diagnosing and treating diabetic, arterial, venous, and mixed etiology wounds or Kennedy Ulcers.
- A comfort level staging pressure injuries according to the NPIAP.
- A familiarity with wound care best practice and advanced wound care products; collagens, alginates, foams, silvers, etc.
- A comfort with using wound vacs and other DME, such as pressure relieving/ reducing devices.
- A strong preference to having wound certification or being open to getting certified.
- Experience working in a long-term care setting.
- The ability to work with an EMR.
- The ability to work within an interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care.
