This position serves as part of a temporary pool of reserve Police Officers for UNC Asheville. As a central part of the university community, the mission of University Police is to contribute to and promote the greater mission of UNC Asheville by facilitating a safe, secure, and service-oriented environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors through crime prevention programs, law enforcement activities, and community assistance.
Responsibilities
- Patrol within the geographic jurisdiction of UNC Asheville
- Conduct criminal investigations
- Implement crime prevention programs to promote safety and deter criminal activity
- Assist motorists and provide parking/traffic control
- Provide security at special events
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment
- Valid driver’s license required at the time of application; valid North Carolina driver’s license required prior to appointment
- Must undergo an extensive background investigation, including psychological evaluation, medical exam, and drug screen
Preferred Qualifications
- Current possession of North Carolina BLET Certification
- At least two years of campus law enforcement experience
Skills
- Technical skill and knowledge in law enforcement with the ability to keep up with current developments and trends
- Ability to present information clearly and concisely to individuals or groups, both verbally and in writing
- Strong listening and response skills
- Understanding of the organization’s mission and the impact of decisions on the community and other departments
- Problem-solving skills, including identifying issues, obtaining relevant information, and determining possible solutions
Pay
$25.00 per hour
Schedule
This is a temporary, part-time reserve officer position with up to 40 hours per week based on departmental needs.
