Job Summary
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Physician examines and treats patients with a wide range of conditions, takes patient histories, requests diagnostic tests, makes diagnoses, prescribes treatment, administers vaccinations, performs follow‑up examinations, and educates patients in disease prevention and health maintenance. The physician also supervises the clinical activities of allied health professionals and advanced practice professionals.
Essential Functions
- Examine, collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
- Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Order, perform, and interpret tests; examine records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ conditions.
- Work with a clinical team of technicians, advanced practice professionals, and physicians.
- Make judgments about tests, diagnoses, and treatment options for patients.
- Monitor patient conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
- Diagnose and treat conditions in the area of specialty.
- May work in a hospital, specialty clinic, or outpatient surgical center.
- May perform surgical procedures, treatment, or non‑invasive procedures in the area of specialty.
- Create post‑operative care plans and recommend lifestyle changes involving diet, exercise, and other matters.
- Supervise the clinical activities of a care team that may consist of other providers and allied health professionals.
Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in Medicine
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas by the Texas Medical Board
- Board certified in the specialty or actively pursuing board certification as defined by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists
