Part Time OBGYN MA

About the Role
The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting the practice with overall responsibility for maintaining efficiency of patient flow. Clinical duties include maintaining universal precautions; rooming patients, taking necessary vital signs and measurements, performing phlebotomy as needed, administering vaccines, performing treatments and procedures as ordered by the provider. The Medical Assistant will also be responsible for patient education, counseling, and performing various testing and screenings. Additionally, they will maintain patients’ rooms, set up and stock supplies, and order and track supplies for the practice.
Administrative responsibilities include making appointments, filing, answering phones, preparing correspondence, preparing patient charts, and obtaining referrals and paperwork from referring physician offices.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients coming in for appointments in a professional manner and escorts them into patient exam rooms.
- Assists with varied procedures within the practice, including both routine and non-routine (complex) procedures as directed and under the supervision of the MD, NP, or PA.
- Provides a variety of services including assisting physicians in all minor procedures and wound care as requested.
- Acts as a chaperone when needed.
- Takes vital signs and documents accordingly.
- Assists the administrative team in greeting patients, scheduling appointments, processing orders, collecting encounter forms, and answering telephones.
- Assists with determining the reason for visit or phone call, flags for immediate responses, takes messages appropriately, and notifies appropriate medical staff.
- Coordinates room rotations and assists with varied procedures under the supervision of the MD, NP, or PA.
- Assists with receiving test results for physicians and calling patients with follow-up of labs and tests under the direction of the physician or nurse practitioner.
- Cleans instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines.
- Maintains sterilizer competencies.
- Maintains excellent customer service and fosters an environment of optimal patient care.
- Communicates critical patient information to the nurse and/or provider.
- Acts in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintains a positive attitude at all times, creating a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
- Ensures appropriate communication regarding changes in schedule with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, staff, and patients.
- Verifies schedule at the end of the clinic and provides it to the Program Director.
- Assists the Nursing Supervisor with completing weekly MA schedules.
- Participates in daily huddles, attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings, and attends workflow/other meetings as needed.
- Cross-trains to assist in covering the front desk team when needed, including patient check-in/out, answering patient questions, and other related administrative tasks.
- Efficiently manages email communications in a timely manner.
- Is proficient in the use of all computer applications, including Meditech, Lotus Notes, and i-heal.
- Assists in uploading photographs into Meditech and i-heal.
- Onboards new employees using the established checklist, reviewing departmental protocols, policies, and workflow.
- Serves as a role model/mentor, providing support, training, and sharing knowledge, including explaining and monitoring new workflows and policies.
- Works in collaboration with the Nursing Supervisor in the preparation of yearly evaluations by providing individual feedback, assisting with chart review, and reviewing yearly competencies to ensure compliance with all personnel policies.
- Commits to two sessions of the annual flu clinics.
- Fosters a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
- Demonstrates required office and clinical equipment competencies.
- Verifies patient identification according to policy prior to administration of care and/or procedures.
- Complies with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper hand-washing.
- Adheres to universal precautions and makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times.
- Appropriately disposes of hazardous materials.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when performing all aspects of the job.
- Follows the appropriate chain of communication/command.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Works the required weekend and holiday schedule.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certificate preferred.

Pay
Pay Range: $23.30 - $33.30 per hour
Schedule
Days, flexible with 8 or 10-hour shifts.
