Part time Library Asst/Delivery Driver

Bargaining Unit: Library Union - SEIU, Local 888. Reports to Administration Department, Library Director.

Pay

$19.70 - $24.89 per hour. The position includes eight step raises awarded annually on the anniversary date of employment.

Schedule

Part-time, 24 hours per week. Year-round position with morning, afternoon, and evening hours.

Responsibilities

• Operates the library delivery vehicle to transport materials among libraries and other delivery locations.
• Assists in providing circulation services.
• Closes and secures the building.
• Provides security for staff, patrons, and the building during evening hours.
• Photocopies materials for library use.
• Inputs data into the OCLN database.
• Mends library materials.
• Empties sidewalk drop boxes.
• Cleans library materials.
• Participates in workshop and training opportunities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by a designated library supervisor.
• Carries out Project Outreach deliveries within the city.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
• Ability to operate a library delivery van.
• Ability to carry book bags and boxes weighing 30–40 pounds.
• Basic working knowledge of computers.
• Willingness and ability to learn new procedures quickly and thoroughly.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently.
• Ability to meet the scheduling requirements of the library.
• Ability to relate to patrons and staff with professional friendliness, patience, tact, and resourcefulness.
