About the role

The Iron County School District seeks a Part Time Level II/Level I Special Education Paraprofessional to work at Escalante Valley Elementary School. This position will begin in August and remains open until filled.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional support assistance to students and student groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
  • Affords assistance in observing and recording behavior patterns and follows appropriate techniques to reinforce acceptable behavior.
  • Affords assistance in the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises to certified educators.
  • Affords assistance in the implementation of procedures related to physical and medical needs.
  • Depending on the position, may be asked to assist students in learning self-care techniques, including toilet training, bathing, and personal cleanliness; may be asked to assist in diapering, toilet training, feeding, and other self-help skills if needed.
  • Participates in the development, maintenance, and execution of systems for classroom management.
  • Guides students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students.
  • Supervises students in all areas of the school.
  • Operates various types of office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.

Requirements

  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and job performance is required.
  • Must monitor students inside and outside of the building during lunch hour.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge, be familiar with Google docs, and check email frequently. Must be willing to learn and use all computer systems and software as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of an approved paraprofessional training program. Knowledge of special education principles and practices, and ability to work with individuals with disabilities are also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and support students.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, etc.) and their operation.
  • Ability to implement behavior management plans.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in using Google docs and email.
