TrainingPart-time

UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ seeks a part-time instructor for a 45-hour CompTIA AI Fundamentals certification program. This role focuses on teaching adult learners, career changers, professionals, and job seekers through a blend of in-person sessions and interactive digital modules, preparing students to earn the official CompTIA AI Fundamentals Competency Certificate (CompCert).

About the role

The course covers practical utilization, prompt engineering, and ethical integration of generative AI tools. Advanced machine learning programming, deep data science algorithms, and complex mathematical coding are not part of this curriculum. The 45-hour schedule includes general AI literacy, advanced prompt design, output evaluation, and responsible AI guardrails, guiding students through automating workplace tasks, utilizing AI for research and decision-making, and understanding core mechanics behind automated AI agents and safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide CompTIA AI Fundamentals instruction using the established curriculum provided by UCNJ Union College, strictly following the approved CompTIA AI framework and predefined course modules.
  • Teach a comprehensive 45-hour pacing syllabus focused on practical tool mastery, including lectures and practical training on crafting effective prompts, refining machine outputs, and managing digital workflows.
  • Deliver quality instruction, assessment, and feedback in both lecture and laboratory settings, utilizing live generative AI tool simulations and auto-graded performance labs.
  • Instruct or co-instruct courses for non-credit programs across traditional lecture, hybrid, and fully online formats, including remote live sessions.
  • Monitor student performance on targeted knowledge checks, motivate active participation, and provide constructive feedback to meet course standards and digital AI literacy objectives.
  • Guide students through core AI workflows, from basic text generation and data synthesis to multi-step task automation and workspace integration.
  • Maintain meticulous and compliant institutional records, including daily attendance tracking, midterm reporting, and final grade entries.
  • Assist with ongoing course and program evaluations to ensure the training environment effectively prepares non-technical learners for AI-enabled careers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Information Technology, Business Informatics, Computer Science, or Education) or an advanced professional certification from an accredited institution in a relevant technological discipline.
  • Official, current CompTIA AI Fundamentals Competency Certificate or equivalent vendor-neutral AI credential preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of formal teaching experience, preferably instructing adult learners in vocational, corporate training, or non-credit continuing education environments.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of practical, professional experience leveraging business technology, information systems, data analytics, or digital workflows where AI optimization tools are actively deployed.
  • Advanced, demonstrable technical proficiency in prompting and administering primary generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or Google Gemini).
  • Proven track record in adult education, workforce development, corporate training, or vocational instruction.
  • Deep conceptual understanding of user applications, workplace efficiency, and human-in-the-loop validation rather than background coding.
  • Practical familiarity with managing course shells within Learning Management Systems (specifically Canvas) and coordinating student activities inside simulated digital laboratory modules (e.g., CompTIA CertMaster Learn/Labs).

Skills

  • Ability to deliver complex technical material strictly according to predefined course outlines and mandatory certificate topics, focusing on applied operational literacy over theoretical computer science.
  • Curious educator with innovative methodologies, adaptable to rapidly changing software capabilities and digital learning management platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to assist leadership with ongoing course evaluations and program improvements.
  • Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online classrooms using remote-live tools, virtual hands-on exercise environments, video-based lessons, and learning management systems (LMS).
  • Skill in evaluating student work, providing actionable feedback, answering software interface inquiries promptly, and motivating active classroom participation.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy academic environment and effectively pace AI interactive modules to ensure full course completion within the 45-hour programmatic window.

Benefits

This part-time, project-based role offers the following benefits for eligible employees:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits.
  • Gym privileges.
  • Tuition remission for credit and non-credit courses at UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ.
  • Tuition reimbursement for an approved degree program at an accredited college or university.

Schedule

Courses may be held at campus locations in Elizabeth, Cranford, or Plainfield, and can include traditional lecture, hybrid, and fully online formats.
