Part-Time (Hybrid) Pharmacist - OTP Clinic

About the role

MedMark Treatment Center is looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented pharmacist to provide pharmacy services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other medical staff by interpreting and evaluating the validity and safety of orders and prescriptions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that drugs are handled in the facility in a manner that protects the safety and welfare of the patient.
  • Set the policies and procedures in the facility as related to all facets of drug handling and distribution; review and update these annually.
  • Develop and maintain a manual with policies and procedures for the receipt, storage, recordkeeping, maintenance of patient profiles, administration, and accountability of all prescription drugs, including procedures for the removal and destruction of unwanted, unused, outdated, or recalled drugs, and security of controlled substances.
  • Ensure the maximum level of safety and efficacy in the provision of pharmaceutical services.
  • Avoid any transaction that involves fee-splitting, rebates, or kickbacks, or that may result in financial exploitation of patients or their families.
  • Document all visits and activities, including irregularities.
  • Provide training and instruction to facility staff responsible for medication receipt, administration, adverse reactions, special diets, or any other drug therapy information.
  • Handle stressful situations and interact effectively with others.
  • Maintain a patient profile on each individual.
  • Visit the facility as needed and be available for emergencies.
  • Dispense take-home medication to eligible patients.
  • Maintain methadone inventories (place and receive methadone orders).
  • Conduct biennial inventory.
  • Participate in any regulatory agency survey or audit.
  • Conduct all business activities in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum age requirement of 18.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Currently licensed as a Pharmacist in New Mexico.
  • Must have or obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, Federal, State, and CARF standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medications that interfere with the effectiveness of methadone.
  • Ability to recognize methadone overdose and take appropriate action per program protocol.
  • Proven excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent documentation and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of local community drug trends, effects of drugs of abuse on the body and cognitive functioning, signs and symptoms of narcotic overdose, psychosocial implications of addictive disease, addiction and treatment processes, and social service, economic, legal, and medical systems.
  • Knowledge of HIV transmission, health, behavioral, and emotional implications of addiction.
  • Ability to work effectively within a medical hierarchy, assist in complex problem-solving with clients, and work autonomously.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and exhibit excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Pharmacy Regulations in New Mexico.
  • Ability to supervise personnel.
  • Satisfactory drug screen and criminal background check.
