About the role

This is a part-time position (up to 30 hours per week) with potential for overtime. The role involves working outdoors and handling hazardous materials, supporting recycling and waste programs, and interacting with the public and local partners.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and manage items like batteries, light bulbs, chemicals, and other hazardous materials
  • Assist with household hazardous waste drop-off events and community programs
  • Unload vehicles, weigh materials, and sort waste for proper disposal
  • Prepare materials for shipment and support vendor pickups
  • Set up and tear down community collection events
  • Operate equipment (forklift, bobcat—training available if needed)
  • Transport materials safely between locations
  • Help maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities
  • Work alongside a team that supports environmental initiatives across Allen County

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED (a related degree is a plus, but not required)
  • Experience in waste management or a similar field is helpful, but training will be provided to the right candidate
  • A valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Comfortable with physical work and lifting up to 75 lbs
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
